Guðleifur Kristjánsson

Where time does not exist

“In the business of transposing images, circumstances and moods from my head to the canvas.”

Guðleifur Kristjánsson was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 1977. The reason he paints is deeply rooted in the passion of transposing images, circumstances and moods from his head to the canvas. In his opinion those things need to break out.

Currently his focus is on landscapes. But in fact those pieces are much more than just that. They represent a moment where time does not exist and are often intentionally empty or minimal with a low horizon emphasizing the vastness of the situation. This allows the viewers to place themselves in the painting without too much of a disturbance. Some other motives might slide along as well and possibly become dominant in the future. That all depends on what his mind will want to express when the time comes.

Guðleifur finished a one year foundation programme at The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts in 2003. Beside that he is mostly self taught in the field of painting and drawing. As of March 2024 he has participated in two group exhibitions.
