Guðlaug Dröfn Gunnarsdóttir
Beauty and Innocence
"Perhaps it makes people more receptive to the urgency of nature - this confrontation with innocence?"
Guðlaug's art consists of paintings and drawings, installations and individual sculptures.
She has also been involved in music since childhood; whether it's singing in French indie bands or chimes in Icelandic garage bands on Sundays.
The basis of Guðlaug's visual language is often the contrasts, both in the material as well as in light. In a way her art is connected to the idea of Plato's cave; you have a subject on one hand and then the silhouette or shadow that can be of another kind. The magic is born in the light and that is what makes painting exciting for her. Colours are actually light and the painting therefore works with the light.
Guðlaug brings out the essence of things, which often lies in their beauty and innocence, which everyone understands without explanation. "Perhaps it makes people more receptive to the urgency of nature – this confrontation with innocence? "
